Learn to avoid and manage problems in the water and gain greater confidence in your diving skills
Divers describe the PADI Rescue Diver course as the most challenging, yet it is the most rewarding course they have ever taken. Why? Because you learn to prevent and manage problems in the water and you become a more confident diver with your skills, knowing that you can help another if they need it.
PADI (Junior) Advanced Open Water Divers who are at least 12 years old and have completed the Underwater Sailing Adventure Dive, can enroll in the Rescue Diver course.
You also need to have Emergency First Response Primary and Secondary Care (CPR and First Aid) training within the last 24 months. You can complete this training during the Rescue Diver course.
Your instructor can also offer you the PADI Emergency Oxygen Provider dive specialty course at the same time.
The PADI Rescue Diver course prepares you to deal with major and minor diving emergencies using a variety of techniques. Through knowledge development and rescue exercises, you learn what to look for and how to respond. During rescue drills, you put your knowledge and skills to use. Topics include:
Recognize and manage distress in other divers
Emergency management and equipment
Rescue divers in panic
Rescue unconscious divers
You will use your basic diving equipment and you will need a pocket mask to practice resuscitation in the water. During the exercises, you will work with an oxygen unit, floats, marker buoys, and perhaps CPR manikins.
